Disability Loss Of License | When
pilots are grounded for medical reasons they suffer financial losses - often for
a long time. But
collectively, pilot disabilities cost employers tremendous amounts of money, directly
through benefit costs and indirectly through increased operational costs.
WHY
BUY PILOT DISABILITY INSURANCE?
Your
Pilots have a Problem
Pilots are unique, in that they are subject to losing their FAA license, due to
sickness or accident, and subsequently losing their ability to practice their
chosen profession. While the vast majority of pilots who are permanently unable
to fly can go to work in another occupation, they almost invariably suffer a loss
of income - often for a long time if not permanently.
Pilots are far more likely to lose their medical certificate during their working
years than they are to die. However, even if the organization has group disability
coverage, the problem isn't solved because group policies often aren't occupation
specific in their definition of disability - especially as it relates to pilots.
We can't make this problem go away, but we can make it easier - financially.
So why is this an organization
problem?
From our more than
50 years of experience, we know that nearly all pilot disabilities lasting
for over 24 months become permanent for purposes of flying. One must remember
that the vast majority of disabled pilots could go to work in another
job or industry. They just can't fly. As a result, the organization can
easily have an employee who can't do the job they were hired for - but
doesn't qualify for disability benefits from social security or the group
LTD plan.
So why is this your problem? Because if this happens, the organization now has
to: - employ
pilots in another capacity at their flying income - a bad position for the organization
- employ them at a
lower income - a bad position for the former pilot (in either case, you've got
employees doing a job they really don't want to do)
- terminate
the former pilot
Let
your imagination run with that and you can see that problems can - and do - develop.
Additionally there are significant increases in operations costs to the organization
when pilots are disabled. Training cost, reserved time, management and systems
costs all go up. So it's in everyone's best interest to keep pilots in the cockpit
or minimize their downtime whenever possible. Improved productivity helps everyone's
bottom line. We
Understand
We
understand the pilot's problem and the organization's problem. Further, we offer
some truly unique solutions.

inability to perform the material duties of a commercial pilot as the result of
any sickness, or accidental bodily injury". This remarkable product will
