You and your family are automatically accepted provided you meet the eligibility requirements outlined in this brochure. And you are eligible for benefits of up to $250,000 including special aviation coverage up to as much as $100,000.

ALL EAA MEMBERS & THEIR FAMILIES ARE ELIGIBLE
This Plan is designed for and available to EAA members exclusively! If you are a member under age 65 (65-69 for those who have passed the Class III medical exam), you are eligible for this economical coverage. Your spouse, under age 70, and unmarried, dependent children under age 19 (25 if a full-time student) who are residing with you and are chiefly dependent upon you for support and maintenance are also eligible for coverage under the Family Plan when you become insured.

UP TO $250,000 OF PROTECTION
Coverage is available in amounts from $50,000 to $250,000. You can purchase an individual plan insuring only yourself, or a family plan that will protect you and your family. The special Aviation Benefits included provide up to $100,000 for covered aviation activities. Maximum coverage for those ages 65-69 is $50,000 and $25,000 for those age 70 and over.

BENEFITS FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
Under Family Plan coverage, your spouse's coverage is 40% of yours if children are covered, 50% if there are no children covered. Each child's benefit amount is 10% of yours, or 15 % if there is no spouse coverage. Here's an example using $100,000 as your selected benefit amount:

SPECIAL AVIATION BENEFITS EXCLUSIVELY FOR EAA MEMBERS
You will receive coverage for loss of life of up to 100% of your selected benefit amount, up to a maximum of $100,000, if flying or riding as a pilot or crew member in an airplane which has a valid and current airworthiness certificate issued by the FAA. EAA Members are also covered for loss of life for these special aviation activities:

  • While riding as a pilot or crew member in an airplane performing (including aerobatics) at an EAA Fly-In or an EAA/International Aerobatic Club-sanctioned event. Coverage provides up to 100% of the principal sum, up to a maximum of $100,000. The Benefit Amount payable is based on the covered loss.
  • While riding as a pilot or crew member on a regularly scheduled airline, benefits are payable up to the principal sum, up to a maximum of $100,000.
  • Also, 50% of the principal sum will be payable for loss of life while riding as a pilot or crew member in an airplane performing in a non-sponsored airshow (including aerobatics) which is held within Federal Aviation Regulation. This coverage is limited to a principal sum maximum of $50,000.

The Special Aviation Benefits Are Subject To The Following Conditions:
  • Aircraft must have a valid certificate of airworthiness.
  • Aircraft must be flown by a pilot with a valid license.
  • Aircraft must not be used for:
    • Crop dusting;
    • Spraying or seeding;
    • Commercial advertising;
    • Banner towing or sky writing;
    • Fire fighting;
    • Pipeline or power line inspection;
    • Aerial photography or exploration;
    • Sky diving or hang gliding;
    • Speed racing;
    • Endurance tests or an attempt at record setting flights;
    • Maneuvers which are in willful and intentional violation of current FAA Regulations.
  • The Aircraft is not engaged in any operation which requires a special permit from the FAA, even if the permit is granted. This does not apply if the permit is required:
    • Solely because of the territory flown over or landed on.
    • For an activity described under the Aviation Coverage.
  • Coverage is provided when an aircraft is flown outside of the United States, its protectorates, territories, and Canada, provided the aircraft is privately owned by the pilot who is a member of the EAA.

AUTOMATIC ACCEPTANCE
Your acceptance in this EAA endorsed Accidental Death & Dismemberment Plan is guaranteed by simply returning your completed Enrollment Form, subject to meeting the eligibility requirements and payment of the proper premium.

WHEN YOUR COVERAGE BEGINS
Coverage will begin after your Enrollment Form and premium payment are received by the Plan Administrator, Harvey Watt & Company, provided you are regularly performing the duties of your occupation. If you are not, coverage will begin on the first of the month following a return to those duties.

NO AGE TERMINATION
Your coverage continues as long as you remain in an eligible class, the premiums are paid when due and the Group Policy remains in force. Coverage terminates when you enter full-time active-duty military service for more than 30 days. Coverage for family members ends when your coverage ends or when they are no longer eligible.

If an insured has more than one covered loss as a result of any one accident, only the one amount, the largest to which he/she is entitled, will be paid. This amount will not exceed the benefit amount.
24-HOUR COVERAGE AROUND THE WORLD

With this extensive 24-hour protection, you and your family are protected 24 hours a day, anywhere in the world. The Plan protects you while flying as a passenger, traveling on vacation or working on projects at home. Benefits are paid if the covered loss occurs within 365 days after the injury first happened. Plus, they are paid regardless of other insurance you may have.

MONTHLY COMA BENEFIT
If a Covered Person suffers a loss as a result of a covered injury, within 365 days from the date of the accident, and such loss results in the Covered Person being in a coma for at least 31 consecutive days, Zurich American Insurance Company will pay a monthly coma benefit of 1% of the Principal Sum, the monthly coma benefit will be payable for each month of continuous coma to a maximum of 12 months.

GENERAL EXCLUSIONS FOR 24-HOUR COVERAGE

Benefits won't be paid for any loss which is due to: suicide; intentionally self-inflicted injury or any attempt thereat; physical or mental sickness; war or act of war; active duty for more than 30 days in any insurrection; armed forces; committing a crime or an attempt to do so; being intoxicated or under the influence of any drug, unless taken as prescribed by a physician, voluntary intake of poison, drugs, gas, or fumes unless taken as prescribed by a physician. 

Except for the Special Aviation Benefit, AD&D benefits are not paid for loss resulting from travel or flight in any aircraft or device which can fly above the earth's surface, if:

  • The aircraft is being used for test or experimental purposes; by or for any military authority; for travel or is designed for travel beyond the earth's atmosphere.
  • The insured person is serving as a pilot or crew member or student taking flying lessons and is not riding as a passenger; hang gliding, parachuting (except where the insured has to make a parachute jump for self-preservation). Please refer to Special Aviation Benefits section in this brochure for the coverage provided by this Plan.

NOTE: Premiums are based on attained age at the time of application and at the policy anniversary date.The Principal Sum applicable to the Member and Insured Dependent Spouse will reduce to 50% of the total benefit or $50,000, whichever is less, at age 65; to 25% of the total benefit or $25,000, whichever is less, at age 70. A $2 processing fee is included in all premiums. The Insurance Company reserves the right to increase premiums on a class-wide basis.
